H1N1 Vaccines

PrimeCare has applied to receive the H1N1 vaccines from the state. However, as of the end of October, we have not heard when or if we will be receiving any of those here at the clinic. The Faulkner County Health Unit is currently giving the vaccine to pregnant women only. You can contact them at 450-4941 for more information on this.

When is the best time to get a Flu Shot?

According to the CDC, flu season in Arkansas is generally between the end of December and mid-April. Rarely are cases reported before December. It peaks between mid-January and mid-March with most cases occurring in the month of February.

The Arkansas Health Department has indicated that flu shots are good for a whole year for most people. But in high risk patients, it has been known to only last for about 120 days. Because of this, if you are considered a high risk patient, PrimeCare recommends that you get the flu shot after November 11th. This will offer you the most effective immunity during the peak of flu season. However, if you would like a shot before this date please speak with one of our providers.

A person might be considered a High risk if any of the following apply:

Age greater than 65 years
Chronic Lung Disease
Taking Immunosuppressant Drugs
